Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy

To use Mattermost, all users must agree to the Mattermost Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy. You cannot create or use a Mattermost account unless you agree to both policies. The Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy may change over time, and all users are required to accept and comply with the most current versions.

Acceptable Use Policy

The Acceptable Use Policy explains how Mattermost may and may not be used.

The policy exists to:

  • Support lawful and responsible use of Mattermost

  • Protect users, organizations, and systems

  • Prevent misuse of the platform

The official Acceptable Use Policy is available at: https://mattermost.com/terms-of-use/#acceptable-use-policy

What It Covers

The Acceptable Use Policy includes rules related to:

  • Compliance with applicable laws and regulations

  • Prohibited or harmful behavior

  • Protection of system security and availability

  • Respect for the rights and safety of others

The Acceptable Use Policy applies to all Mattermost users.

Privacy Policy

The Privacy Policy explains how Mattermost handles personal data.

It describes:

  • What personal data may be collected

  • How data is used, stored, and protected

  • User rights related to personal data

  • How privacy requirements apply across different deployment models

The official Privacy Policy is available at: https://mattermost.com/privacy-policy/

Commercial and Self-Hosted Deployments

For commercial customers, including self-hosted deployments, organizations may replace or override these policies in the Mattermost System Console with their own acceptable use or conduct policies, based on contractual terms. If you change the default link to add your own terms for using the service you provide, your new terms must include a link to the default terms so end users are aware of the Mattermost Acceptable Use Policy for Mattermost software.

Additional Information

For questions about acceptable use, contact your system administrator. For questions about privacy or data handling, refer to your organization’s internal policies.
